Could it be that anyone who is concerned about how fashionable or up-to-the-minute blogging is might also be the kind of person who wants to keep up with conversation by reading best-sellers? I follow some of the blogs I read about once a month, and most of the conversation is still worth following. Can't say that about twitter.

Definitely started my blog for personal reasons. There is something about the ability to put an idea out there and to learn there are others interested, too. It made the world much smaller for me.

Bermudaonion - I agree that the networking part of blogging is still relevant and fun and I must confess that I have met some very interesting voices here and that's what encourages me to continue. I find Twitter pointless, as of now.

Bookchronicle - I think most of the personal blogs are non-commercial and out here to interact on issues or ideas that they find interesting. That's the essence, if I may say so.

Jeff - I completely agree. I am sure that Boutin does not believe half of what he says. It's just that extreme opinions tend to attract more readership, I guess.

Profithoundpro - Blogs can serve so many diverse functions for diverse people that twittering or facebook can never compare to. And text medium is here to stay. Foreever.

BookDiva - That's the attitude! I will blog if I want to. I guess that's another essence of this medium - freedom of choice.

Thank's for all your opinions.

My blog is strictly for personal reasons, and I don't use ads, etc., because of that. My blog isn't for money, but for those who want to try to earn some, that's great, for them.

I tend to think that Boutin is way off, but that's his opinion. It's my blog, and I'll blog if I want to! :)

By the way, thanks for that other added bit of information you stated to me.

I started my blog not to long ago to review money making opportunities on the net as there is so much crap out there that people deserve the right to make informed decisions and if my blog helps them with that I am one happy camper. I have yet to utilize twitter or facebook as I am unfamiliar with their plateform.

I'm not blogging as much as I did 3 years ago but that's because I'm focused on writing a book (or two). But I'm also not twittering, etc.

There's never an either/or situation with blogging, etc. People like Boutin just like to make tiring, controversial statements because it gets attention. And, quite frankly, it's exactly the type of article that Wired wants to publish. Boutin simply knows the trick of freelance writing: write what the magazine wants.

I started my blog for completely personal reasons as well and with absolutely no inclination towards making it popular, social, etc. It seems Boutin has a very limited view on the many reasons why someone would be inclined to blog.
